About Dr. West and Reproductive Medicine
Dr. West has helped thousands of women with fibroids get relief from their symptoms, achieve pregnancy, and keep their reproductive organs intact – even though doctor after doctor had told these women that hysterectomy was their only option. He successfully challenged the prevailing medical thinking of our time and has published extensively, taught and lectured on his findings.
When [my wife and I] got to the office I felt an immediate sense of confidence and relief, that we finally found the right place.–Mike S., Queens, NY
Dr. West started his practice, Reproductive Medicine, in order to help infertile couples. Eventually women suffering from fibroids who were past childbearing years, or who didn’t want children, began to seek him out as well. Contrary to the thinking in the medical community that favored hysterectomies for these women, the women themselves did not want hysterectomies, especially when they learned that they had another option.
Meanwhile, Dr. West began to take notice of the common side effects women reported to him after hysterectomy, side effects that were not mentioned in the medical textbooks and that the prevailing medical “wisdom” wrote off as “in a woman’s head.”
Eventually, following an article published in the British Journal Lancet, the medical community began to recognize what women had known for years: that the troubling symptoms women experienced after hysterectomy were very real. Science began to recognize that a large number of women – not an isolated few – were experiencing these symptoms, and medical causes for them were beginning to be discovered. Given this fact, Dr. West could no longer justify performing hysterectomy for conditions that could be managed with less drastic measures. To help inform the public, Dr. West authored The Hysterectomy Hoax, published by Doubleday in 1994.
Dr. West graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Einstein – Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.
He accepted the dual honors of serving as Professor and Surgeon at the University of Rome and as Consultant in Microsurgery at King Edward Hospital in Bermuda.
